So maybe you forgot that you left a pot of oil on the fire and got carried away doing something else, and now you got back into your kitchen and fire was burning from inside the pot, with soothe and smoke everywhere.
Here are some things you can do to stop the fire without burning down your kitchen and hurting yourself:

-The first thing to do is to turn off the cooking gas,
-Look for the lid of the pot, or any heavy lid or pot cover and cover the pot in question, it will quench the fire.
-If you have flour at home, take a huge chunk of it and pour into the pot. It will stop the fire after a few seconds
-If you have baking soda at home, pour it over the fire, and it will stop it.

DON'T pour water into a pot with fire in it, the fire will just burn more, and turn into bigger flames.
