As Beta Girls, health is wealth! One of the many reasons why we are recommended to visit the OBGYN(OBstetrics and GYNecology) at least every 3 months is because most of the issues with our reproductive system may have no symptoms. Here are a few things to note about fibroids.

1. Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus).
The growths are made up of muscle and fibrous tissue and vary in size

2. Majority of women are not aware that they have fibroids and do not experience any symptoms.

3. For the few who experience symptoms, some of the symptoms include:
- heavy/painful periods
- abdominal pain
- lower back pain
- pain or discomfort during sex

4. Fibroids are most common in women between the ages 25 and 50; It is also most common in women of African- Caribbean origin

5. Overweight or obese women are more likely to have fibroid

6. Women who have given birth are less likely to develop fibroid
