Marriage is a covenant between God, the man and his wife.
(A covenant is a clause in a contract, meaning all parties involved have roles to fulfill).
Mans covenant: Ephesians 5:23 "For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church"
Womans covenant: Ephesians 5:22 " Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord"
Gods covenant: Hebrews 3:4 "For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God"
Therefore God is the one to establish the marriage, the man should head over his wife and the wife should submit to her husband.
How to prepare yourself for marriage; spiritually.
1-Establish a strong relationship with God.
Matthew 6:33 " but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you'. We should take time out to build our relationship with God by fellowshipping in a living church, sparing considerable time from our schedules everyday to talk to God, studying His word relentlessly and constantly being in an attitude of prayer.
2-Educate yourself on Gods purpose for marriage.
Here are some of God's purposes for marriage:
Genesis 2:18 "it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him a helper fit for him"
Ecclesiastes 4:9 "Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil".
Look at toil here as praying together as a couple.
Matthew 18:19 "again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven"
Genesis 1:28b- "...be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it..."
1Corinthians 7:2- "but because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband"
3- Desire a partner
Proverbs 10:24b "...but the desire of the righteous will be granted"
Upon seeking and attaining God's righteousness, and knowing what the purpose of marriage is, you can now desire a marriage partner.
4- lay your request to get married, before God.
Psalm 37:5 "commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him and He will act'
Matt 7:11 "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father who is in heaven, give good things to those who ask?"
So my sisters, ask for a partner from God. Take time out to make your request known to Him.
5- claim victory and give thanks to God
1 Corinthians 15:57 "but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ"
6-Keep your mind at rest from the matter, all anxiety should cease.
Genesis 2:21-22 "so the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he SLEPT took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man He made into a woman and brought her to man"
Adam was resting/sleeping, while God was molding his wife, Eve, for him. So too Beta Girls, after praying we should rest(keep our minds free from worrying about the matter) and believe that God is molding our partners, and as He brought Eve to Adam, so will He bring our molded husbands to us.
7- Don't rush, be patient for IN GODS TIME, He would make it beautiful for you. Ecc 3:11
8- Stay in the righteousness of God.
Don't neglect your spiritual life. Abstain from things that grieve the Spirit of God.
Galatians 5:19-21a "now the works of d flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies..."
James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
9-Make yourself as good as the type of person you desire.
Matt 7:12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the law..."
And in Gods time, a strong force would bring your 'molded' Adam your way! :-)
